Welcome to the Halesowen Boardgame club. New Blog http://halesowenboardgamers.blogspot.com/ We are a group of adults who meet weekly to play strategy boardgames as well as some lighter card games. During school holidays we often bring along our children, they have a great time and hopefully gain some useful life experience in the process. The club was formed in 2002 and has slowly grown ever since. The board games we prefer
are not the games from our childhood; Monopoly, Ludo and Mouse Trap. We
play modern strategy games which are generally designed by clever Germans. These
games are characterised by their relatively short play times, lack of
player elimination and puzzle like game systems.
www.boardgamegeek.com At our club players are not too greatly disadvantaged by lack of experience at a given game because the mixture of luck and other players picking on the leader, leave new players a real chance at victory. We don't become "experts" at the games we play. These games are not like Chess, Bridge or Scrabble where a very experienced/bright player throws off the balance of the game killing the fun. Our games are fortunately plentiful and so we are often playing games new to all of us, which will be played a couple of times before going back on the shelf to be circulated maybe once every 3 or 4 months. The rules are generally simple and quickly explained. We do run an on going "Trophy Point" system but please don't let this put you off attending if you are not overly competitive, we really don't take it that seriously. The emphasis is on having a good time and no one gets too intense over the game results. Points go back to zero at the end of the month giving everyone a new shot at the cup. We would be delighted to have your company. Why not attend our next Wednesday session? |
